BPERB-IEB

The Bangladesh Professional Engineers Registration Board (BPERB) has long been working for the setting of professional development standards with the view to registering engineers who apply for registration as professional engineers. A number of factors in the rapidly changing engineering project management environment in the wider world of engineering viz as with the WTO/GATS agreement, Washington Accord and International Professional Engineering Agreement (IPEA) etc make it necessary for BPERB to review its standards, policies and procedures relating to registration and to adopt an updated approach in the assessment of candidates.

The national development schemes with the target of sustainable development goal (SDG) have a strong effect on the skilled manpower. The engineering professionals should be able to adjust to the demand and competency required to meet the national and international rising standard. In this perspective, it becomes necessary for BPERB to communicate, in more definitive terms, its policies, standards and procedures so as to enable aspirant professionals to prepare themselves better for their future careers.

As a provisional member of the Washington Accord, which provides mutual accreditation of undergraduate qualifications at universities and as a signatory to the International Professional Engineers Agreement, which shall inspire to achieve a system of mutual recognition at the full professional level to facilitate cross-border mobility of registered professional engineers. BPERB’s policies, procedures and standards are increasingly coming under scrutiny on an international basis.

Since it is one of BPERB’s stated objectives, to ensure that its standards should at least meet those of the international agreements, it is necessary to document its requirements for the professional registration in sufficient detail to facilitate BPERB’s evaluation process to be adequately streamlined and sufficiently comprehensive, to ensure that all persons registered precisely meet the requirements in full.

The updated Registration System for engineering professionals is introduced with immediate effect from 2019.
